Maqueen Plus V3 MBT0050-AA · micro:bit · MakeCode

Maqueen Plus V3 line-following car

Assemble the AA-battery version and run DFRobot's V3 example on a black-line track. Then inspect the sensor readings behind steering.

Start with the basics

What you will build

Follow a black line on a light surface using the car's integrated sensors and motor control.

Before you start

  • Create a MakeCode project, add an extension and transfer a program. Follow the kit's illustrated assembly guide.
See materials, equipment and tools

Model and software requirements

  • Selected hardware: AA version MBT0050-AA, not the 18650 version.
  • DFRobot's V3 guide uses the shared DFRobot_MaqueenPlus_V2 extension. The V2 name does not mean the example is for a different chassis.

Similar products, older hardware and other software versions are not automatically interchangeable.

Check items as you prepare them. Follow each source for part specifications, kit contents and assembly requirements.

Required materials

  • × 1

Includes the chassis, motors, battery board, sensor assembly, wheels, track, fasteners and screwdriver listed by the maker.

    Material reference
  • × 1

Not listed in the base kit's shipping list; check the selected bundle.

    Material reference
  • × 1

For the micro:bit; check whether the selected bundle includes it.

    Material reference
  • × 4

The AA wiki specifies 1.5 V alkaline or 1.2 V Ni-MH. These are not AAA cells or an 18650 battery.

Equipment & tools

  • A browser-equipped computer. The kit's track and screwdriver are in the manufacturer's shipping list; do not buy them twice without checking the package.

Build route

Follow the original instructions in order. This overview does not replace wiring diagrams or calibration procedures.

  1. 1

    Confirm the kit and power

Check the AA model, four cells and micro:bit before assembly.

  2. 2

    Assemble the car

Follow the AA guide for brackets, battery board and sensor connections. Check both power switches.

  3. 3

    Prepare MakeCode

Install the documented shared extension and open the V3 line-following example.

  4. 4

    Run the quick example

Transfer the official program and begin with its slow setting on the supplied track.

    Check calibration

If detection is abnormal, use the calibration section. Then explore the regular sensor example linked below.

First-run checks

  • The calibration indicator distinguishes the black and white areas as the maker describes.
  • The car follows the supplied track and responds to documented program changes.

Outside this project's scope

  • Line following is not SLAM, free-space navigation or a guaranteed strategy for arbitrary junctions.

Assembly and operation notes

  • Do not recharge alkaline cells or apply the 18650 version's charging instructions to this AA kit.
  • The maker warns that some laser-printed black tracks may not be detected. Testing suggestion: keep the board dry and use a flat surface without a drop edge.

What to include in your budget

  • Add the micro:bit, USB cable and batteries if absent from your bundle, plus shipping. A Ni-MH charger is a separate item if that battery route is chosen.
